Remember the mayhem of Y2K? All the computers in the world were going to crash and we were this close to being ceremoniously catapulted back into the dark ages; void of all computers and technology......maybe even electricity for all we knew. Obviously, the dire situation IT geeks everywhere were predicting didn't happen and we came out the other side in one piece. We've all lived to tell the tale, although I wonder how many of those tech-ies woke up on New Year's Day to a front door covered in broken eggs or their entire house wrapped in in Quilted Northern.....double roll.
It's over a decade later and we have a new disaster looming in the not-so-distant future: 12/21/2012. Yep, supposedly, the world is going to end that day.....or it's going to be the beginning of some physical change in the universe. I don't think I buy into all that mumbo-jumbo but if I did, I've got a lot to get done in the next eleven months. How could this happen right after I turn 30? I have high hopes for the next decade of my life and I don't appreciate some ancient calendar interrupting my plans.
Luckily, I'm doing my 1/2 marathon in April so we're in the clear there but what about everything else? Sure, I can squeeze in skydiving and a few other simple tasks but some of the bigger plans might be a little tricky. I think it is probably safe to say that a second marriage and 2.5 children are definitely out of the question. No sense playing the lottery either. Not that I do anyway, but now it would really be pointless. He who dies with the most money, still dies, right?
I guess all this brings me to the big topic of discussion this time of year - the dreaded resolutions. Seeing as how the world might end, I'll keep them simple. Even if we live beyond December 21st, they'll still be beneficial and work for the greater good. They are:
1) Be Happy.
2) Be Healthy.
3) Love Everyone.
and most importantly.....
4) Clean the litterbox regularly!
Happy Belated New Year :)
